New Nehalem MacPro starts/shutsdown in verbose mode

Hello, I have a 10.5.7 image that I created with InstaDMG on a Macbook Pro. It works great on the macbook pro and a mac mini that I tested it on. But when I image a new Nehalem based MacPro, it starts and shutsdown in verbose mode. The system runs perfectly however, it’s just very odd that it starts in verbose. Any idea how this might have happened, and any suggestions on a solution?

Newer computers will automatically set verbose startup mode when the startup disk set in EFI is not available (and it has to search for the next valid one). Since you wiped away the volume that used to be the startup volume (or more specifically: wiped away the volume UUID) it falls into this mode. The solution is to go into the startup disk control panel and set your startup volume. If you have an imaging system, you just need to make sure that it sets the startup volume before rebooting into the new image.

This happened to me with the first aluminum macbooks.

You can use the systemsetup command to set a startup disk to sidestep opening up startup disk. The syntax is:

systemsetup -setstartupdisk path
