I am fairly new to OD and have setup an OD Master and a test replica machine. I want to use network home folders for my users, and am looking for some advice or best practice solutions for my setup…
I have an OD master in the Seattle office and the OD Replica in the LA office, with the two servers syncing nicely. I have a user base that travels between facilities quite often and I would like them to be able to have the same setup and access to the same data in both facilities. Network Home folders provide this, but what I currently am having trouble with and need advice for, is that the network home folders live on the server in Seattle. I would like to set it up so that the home folders sync between the servers and when the user logs in to a machine, it will use the home folder on the local OD server. If the user logs in in Seattle, the Home folder will be served from the local OD Master, if the that same user goes to LA and log’s in there, I want the home folder on the Replica to be used.
I can handle the replication of the home folder data between servers just fine with a launchd job or some scripting solution, but can a user have more than one home folder location and is the system smart enough to use the closest one?
Is this even the best way to go about this?
Should I have setup two OD Masters and just try to sync the data between them instead?
Hopefully this makes sense… I appreciate any time and thoughts you all might have on this. BTW, I love AFP548.com… I never would have got my servers up an running so quickly without it.

haxie
