    Hi All,

I have a G4 running OS X 10.2.8. We are using it as a webserver, email server(EIMS), and a FMP 7 Web server. Occassionally(more frequently now) the network card goes deaf. What I mean by this is that it is as though the machine forgets it is there. I can do 1 of 2 things to get it back:

    1) go into Sys Prefs/Network and disable the card and then re-enable it again

    2) restart the machine

Is there any remedy to this? I am getting tired of coming back after hours to reboot the machine. A simple script that would be able to disable and re-enable the card from Terminal would be very helpful. I have a monitor that could run the script when it detects it is down.

    Thanks for any help.

Sounds like its time for a new NIC.

Do the logs tell you anything?

Unfortunately not. The only thing it shows is not being able to contact the DNS server, which of course would be the case since the NIC is down.

I’ve looked at running ifconfig from the command line to bring the NIC down and back up, but when I try to put it back up it does not actually work.
