Have figured out how to setup Netboot/Netrestore and have had success today with Slot-Load iMac’s and iBooks. G3 (Blue & White) with latest 1.1 Firmware just won’t connect. Get a firmware error and then the local HD loads. Using setenv variables the same way in OF that I did with the iMac’s and iBooks. Has anyone managed to perform a NetRestore via the G3 (B&W)’s? A big thanks to all that helped create NetRestore. An awesome tool for imaging Mac’s across the net. Always can Master/Slave the G3 (B&W), but want to get some responses from the group first. Thanks in advance. Smile

Hello. Tried this. Didn’t work. I have a G3 B&W with a formatted hd. Performed the steps you listed via NetInfo Manager and even restarted the server after the first attempt failed. Newer Mac’s still work. When I go into OF, I input the setenv for boot-file, boot-args and boot-device. When I type in mac-boot, I never get the globe. I get the grayish screen and after about a minute, I then get the question mark/flashing folder icon. I’m not running DHCP on the server as the network folks have vlans within handling this. I use the same info that I type into OF for the newer macs as I do with the older macs. Is there a different set of parameters for the older firmware? New at this for sure, but have the newer macs working great, so can’t complain at all. If you can spare anymore input, I’m grateful and thanks for your help. 🙂

    See Apple KB# 60080

Note: The Mac OS ROM file must be present for NetBoot clients to start up successfully. When you use the installer, the Mac OS ROM file is installed on your disk. Be sure not to move or delete it. If you should add newer computers to your network over time, this file may need to be updated with a new ROM file to be compatible with your new computers.
