AFP548 - Topic: Netbooting without owning DHCP

I work for a college and manage a couple hundred computers including 50 iMacs. I want to use deploystudio to reimage my Macs. But being that my router switches aren’t configured for hosting (i think this is the issue). I can’t netboot, I can see my netboot option from the client computer, but it will not boot from the netboot set. Even when using a sudo bless command with the .nbi specified. Any Ideas? Please help. This is driving me up the wall. More Info: I do not control dhcp. I am on a large network controled by another department (computing services). Any better commands to issue using ard? Please and thank you.

I am not sure, but it may be that the issue is not DCHP, but NFS and TFTP that is not getting to the clients

BSDP seems to work since you see the netboot server from the client in Startup Disk Preference pane.

In managed/routed/VLAN environments these protocols (UDP based) will not pass through routers.
If that is your issue you have two options:
1-convince the network admins to allow TFPT, NFS and BSDP across the routers/VLAN’s
2-try to serve the netboot image over HTTP and hope that TFTP does pass.

When you used the sudo bless command, did you specify the netboot server by ip address? that is the safest way.
Is there anything in the log of the netboot server? (to see how far the clients gets in the boot process)

Yes I am specifying the IP address when writing the sudo bless command. I guess I don’t know how to sever the netboot via http can you walk me through it? Or give me the basics.
