MySQL and Apple’s MySQL Manager

After a fresh installation of OS X Server 10.2.3 and start MySQL with Apple's MySQL Manager, upon a reboot, MySQL is not running. The option to have MySQL start on a Systemstart does not work. I then try to start it per the terminal with no success. It seems to be a hot topic on many Forums and Apple's own Discussions Forum. Anyone have a solution? I would really like to trash Apple's MySQL installation and install MySQL myself as I would at least know where all of MySQL is.
