After a fresh installation of OS X Server 10.2.3 and start MySQL with Apple’s MySQL Manager, upon a reboot, MySQL is not running. The option to have MySQL start on a Systemstart does not work. I then try to start it per the terminal with no success. It seems to be a hot topic on many Forums and Apple’s own Discussions Forum. Anyone have a solution? I would really like to trash Apple’s MySQL installation and install MySQL myself as I would at least know where all of MySQL is.

I had a broken MySQL Manager also.

I, too, had problems on my initial attempt to get MySQL up and running.

However, on a second attempt on a fresh install on a work machine, I think I figured out what the issue might be. What I did:

    1. Clean install of OS Server (also assuming DNS, etc. are properly configured for your machine).
    2. Install all necessary updates (god, starting to sound like Windoze…)
    3. Run Check and Fix Permissions

After doing the above, MySQL started like a champ by first clicking on the Install files button, starting the MySQL server, then enabling Run on Startup.

    HOpe that helps.

    Cheers.

This is actually pretty easy to get around. Take a spare HD and format. Install a clean OS with all the updates. Then use Carbon Copy Cloner to make an ASR ready disc image. Use NetRestore on a new hard drive….takes about FOUR minutes using NetRestore!!!

I do the same thing on Windows using Norton Ghost but that takes longer since you have to reboot a few times for it to recognize new devices that were different from the original ghost image
