    Hi all,

I am in the process of migrating our server from Leopard to Snow Leopard, but we are doing the move to a different machine so that we can test everything before enabling the new server… I been trying to migrate our users and groups from the OD store, and i am getting mixed signals from the manuals. i have tried to do: “dsexport exportedUsers.out /LDAPv3/127.0.0.1 dsRecTypeStandard:Users” but that obviously only exports the user records, i have tried using dsRecordsAll but it does not work with that.

My Question is, what is the best way to “migrate” the OD database to another machine? why does the User Admin manual suggest the usage of dsexport instead of using the Archive from the Server Admin – Open Directory tab?

    Any help would be appreciated.

I would use the archive and restore functionality in server admin. That way you will get the entire ldap directory including passwords.
You should test this migration first, make sure you can change users passwords after the migration, move machines etc. There are still some issues with migrating from 10.5 to 10.6 using the archive method.
These may be resolved in future releases of 10.6.
