Does anyone know how I could move my mail/webserver from and old G4 to a nice new dual G5. Obviously I could just install a new system on the G5, set it up as a replica and restore a back up of the mail store and the postfix alias etc.

Unfortunately though my 90 users will recieve all thier mail again – the last time this happened I took a lot of flack. So I was thinking either I could clone the G4 and then “add in” the files needed to run on the G5 or I could move the mail store preserving the users downloaded mail state or use the sieve rules to remove most of the read mail before I move the mailstore so that users don’t get a deluge.

To me the most elegant way to do this would be to move the mail store whilst preserving the downloaded mail state. Does anyone have any comments or know how to do this?? Does anyone have a better idea?

I am in a similar situation. I’ve set up a new machine running OS X Server. It’s up & running and everything seems fine.

How do I move everyone’s mail over from the old server? I can’t simply replace their new mailboxes, because the new server is already up and running and they’re already receiving mail & what not.

I found the mail sitting in /var/spool/imap/user/xxx. I had considered feeding the messages to the Cyrus deliver program, but I’m not sure of the syntax to use for it, etc. or if that’s even the best way.

All of their past IMAP mailboxes, etc. would need to be re-created as well (including the messages inside them.)

I don’t mind the messages getting marked as new again or being downloaded again or whatever. I just want to get them back.

I’d also considered using Fetchmail but the old server won’t boot (but I can access all of the files, etc. on the drive.)
