ParticipantHello all,
I have a setup consisting of:
10.6.4 OS X Server OD Master
Windows 2008 AD Domain Controller
Windows 2008 Member Server File Server
10.6.4 OS X iMac ClientsI have each of the clients bound to OD and AD, with AD providing authentication / network home folders and OD managing preferences via MCX.
I’m enabling Mobile Accounts with HomeSync as in-application performance is pretty awful with lots of clients logged in simultaneously (fairly ordinary 100mbit LAN).
Without Mobile Accounts, everything works as expected – users login, can access their Network Home and MCX preferences are applied correctly, bot from Computer Group and User Group settings. When I’m enabling Mobile Accounts from Workgroup Manager it works as expected on certain workstations, not on others. I’m applying the setting via User Groups, and not via Computer Groups (this is because there are certain generic user accounts that log into multiple computers at once – a HomeSync disaster waiting to happen!
What I find is using the same user account I can login/logout of one workstation perfectly, when I attempt the same on the WS next to it, on login I get the error: “Home Sync Failed. Continue without a synced home?” – if I press Cancel it takes me back to the login window, if I press “Continue” it creates the mobile account and lets me login. When I logout it sits there forever trying to obey the MCX preference to sync on logout (with no network home seemingly mapped). Bizarrely, if I cancel this I can then subsequently login with full mobile account and HomeSync functionality on that workstation, even after a reboot. Other accounts still generate the above error.
The distribution is seemingly random – all of the workstations came form the same master image using DeployStudio.
The following error is written to the Console log when the error is generated:
“smb_mount: mount failed to xxxxxx.xxx.xxx/PupilHome : syserr = Authentication error”
and immediately after:
“HomeSync.doHomeSyncLoginLogout: Unable to mount server URL at ‘smb://xxxxxx.xxx.xxx/PupilHome/’ (80). No sync will occur”
Despite the fact that running mount shows the URL happily mounted in /Network/Servers/
It’s really got me stumped – especially as I have the exact same setup working beautifully elsewhere, the only difference being the use of 10.5.8 clients.
Any advice gratefully received!

ParticipantHi,
Did you ever find what was causing this? We are seeing the same problem on 10.6.x and 10.5.x clients following the upgrade of a home directory server to 10.6. ODM is 10.5.8.
Any help welcome…
Many thanks
