I am running OD with Mobile accounts for all staff, freelance, and client users. We are on a LAN, not a SAN.

I have noticed several user acct options that appear to be disabled for mobile accounts, specifically

    1. enforcing multiple-login rules
    2. enforcing home dir disk quota

This make sense — kind of — obviously I cannot enforce multiple login rules when my mobile account is off-site. But when I am inside my LAN and can hit the Server, there’s no reason I shouldn’t be able to disallow simultaneous logins for a mobile account.

Likewise, the home sync could balk when the files to be sync’d exceed user disk quota.

The big problem here is that my users love nothing more than to dump Gigs of media to their Desktops, or to set Final Cut scratch disks to ~/Documents, in which case the background sync is MASSIVE and chokes up my LAN traffic.

My solution, as of now, is to limit home sync to ~/Library/Preferences

So: am I missing some toggles here, or are these inherent limitations to mobile accounts?

We had a similar problem with tons of data, staff had moved their iTunes libraries to their desktop or documents. The multiple login rules don’t really make sense since the user is really only logged in to the server while syncing. It seems disk quotas should be able to work but the way its currently done is to set the quota on the share for the user not really the home directory. Our only solution was to come up with more extensive lists of exclusions from the sync.
