I suspect this is not a very common use case. I have six kids, and have been running a small leopard server for their accounts as mobile accounts so they could log in to any Mac in the house. Long story short, the usage patterns are such that the server (which is an old powerbook and needs retiring) is no longer required. I would simply rather move their accounts to be local accounts on the main mac that everyone prefers to use.

I tried simply unbinding to the domain server but of course the mobile account files are there but the users can’t authenticate.

What is the best way to move their accounts to the local directory? Ideally they will have the same uid on all machines, and I don’t suppose it matters if it remains a uid normally in the network account range as I have no plans to run a server again.

    Any help appreciated.

Hi, you could try the mtk tool mob2loc.sh from https://github.com/filipp/mtk
Haven’t tried it myself but looks like it does what you want done.

Thanks so much for the pointer – I’ll look into it and post results here when I have the time to work through it.
