Hi,
Maybe a stupid question, but what’s the order in the MCX Preferences – as in, which pref overrides the others ( I assume User Prefs override Computer Prefs which override Group Prefs…)? Also, if I define Application Preferences for the “Students” group (say I allow them to access Safari), and a teacher wants to lock down a program (Safari) for just one Computer Lab while not affecting all the other students, can you define Application Preferences for a Computer List (The Lab) that overrides the Group Application Preference?

If I setup an Application Preference for a Computer List that says “User can open all applications except these,” and only list Safari, but this user belongs to a “Students” group that has an Application Preference defining which applications the user cannot open, will it take JUST the computer list Application Preference, JUST the Group Preference, or a combination of both (Disallow Safari PLUS all the programs defined in the Group Preference)?

I REALLY hope this makes sense. Thanks!

    Hi

Reading John De Troys Tips And Tricks 12.1b available here tells you what you need..

    Page 31 tells us this:
The settings made are applied through a ‘chain of command’ with the settings for an individual user account having the highest priority, followed by computer account settings and finally by workgroup level settings.
