OSX Tiger Server has a built in VNC server, designed to be connected to by the free Apple Remote Desktop Client 2.1. However, when I try to connect to it from a Windows VNC client, none of the clients I have tried so far will successfully authenticate with it.

RealVNC (both the free and the full enterprise version) gives the error on connection “No matching security types”. TightVNC and UltraVNC give the same connection error “Incompatible Version”.

I have called Apple Server Support, but they are unable to help me, other then saying that Chicken of the VNC, another Mac VNC client that should work to connect to the server. But I need to connect from a PC sometimes. I may someday wish to connect from a linux box.

Any suggestions on a non-Mac VNC client that will connnect to OSX Tiger Server?

Dug around some more and discovered that Apple’s new VNC server is actually available in regular Tiger client, it is just turned off by default.

Still don’t have any answers on why I can’t log on with any windows clients.

I also have this problem. Any input would be useful.
