Please help if anyone can. I’m trying to setup IMAP and POP3 on Mac OS X Server and is having problem (with DynDNS, the http server is already up and running).

When I tried to connect with Mail, I get the message:

“The IMAP server ?xxx.xxx.net? rejected the password for user ?user?

Please re-enter your password, or cancel.”

    The password simply wouldn’t pass.

The IMAP log on the Mac OS X Server showes:

“May 3 2003 ….. IMAP User “user” attempted to log on from ###.###.###.### but failed. User has an account on xxx.xxx.net”

The Mail client was set to use the MD5 Challenge-Response in the Authentication field of the Advanced tab.

On the Mac OS X Server, the “Required secure authentication using CRAM-MD5” is checked in the “IMAP Option” in the “Protocal” tab.

In the Workgourp Mananger on the Mac OS X Server, the account “user” has Mail Enabled in the Mail Tab for both POP and IMAP.

    POP3 is experiencing similar problem.

Then I tried and disabled the MD5 on both side. Same results.

I’m pretty sure the password I typed is correct. If I read the manual correctly, the password is just the password that I use to log in “user”. And the user name would just be “user” where the email address would be “[email protected]”.

Any help would be appreciated. Thanx in advance.

[quote:6d03e46e97=”MacTroll”]Check the mail tab for the user in WorkGroup Manager.

There will be a spot to put in the server that the user lives on. Make sure that this is your server’s IP address.

    Hi Joel:

Thanx for your help. I’ve solved the problem. The field you mentioned was filled with “xxx.xxx.net”. I changed it to the internal IP instead and it worked. May I ask why? Please advise, thank you.
