    Hello all!

I’ve googled for this, but haven’t found anyting pointing in the direction my question goes. So here it is:

It appears to me that the optional RAID PCI-Card for the Xserve is an LSI MegaRAID card. More particularly, a customized version of the MegaRAID SATA 150-4. LSI, however, appears to provide no drivers for Mac OS X for any of its MegaRAID products.

What I’d like to do is to convert a G4 box that still has some life in it into a high-capacity RAID-5 file server without breaking the bank, i.e. not having to purchase an external RAID-system and the required host adapter. Since the MegaRAID admin software appears to be part of the standard issue os OSX (currently 10.3.8 – check man megaraid in Terminal, e.g.), I’m curious as to whether any of the following are possible:

    – Use the Apple RAID-adapter in a G4 (not the most desirable solution because it only supports three SATA-channels)

    – Use any other LSI MegaRAID card (ATA133 or S-ATA) in a G4 box with the Apple-supplied drivers/utility

Any insights would be highly appreciated!

    Regards,

    Ron

Not LSI but I’ve got a NetCell SyncRAID 5113 which runs fine in my G4. It’s not a pure RAID but their version of it.

Did you find out if it worked?
