Has anyone noticed that if you have your login screen set to show a list of users (rather than two text fields for l/p), that this window is significantly smaller for Tiger clients than it is for Panther? Check it out, side by side if you’re able. In Panther, you can see five names at a time, and none of these usernames (user longname) are horizontally truncated unless they are ridiculously long. Under Tiger, it’s 3-and-a-bit, and many of the names are truncated horizontally if they are long. I find this to be a real step backward, because we list some 700 users in this format for our school and I was looking forward to more flexibility in our login screen arrangements for Tiger, not less.
Has anyone out there had any luck “customising” their login screen environment? I’ve done a little tinkering, replacing the Apple logo with an identically-sized logo for our School but that’s about it. I’m guessing that some judicious tweaking of a .plist file somewhere might allow! us to re-size the portal in the login screen app to show more names.
Thanks,
Nathan
