I seemed to have configured my server to work as an OD master, and on the local network, I administer the sever from SA using the FQDN, but from a net connection on the internet, I can’t use the FQDN, but only the ‘domainname.com’. Is this normal, or is something not configured correctly?

I was being helped out by a guy who was configuring his DSL modem as a router and asigning the external interface with an IP address in the 10.0.0.1 range. Is this what you mean by not facing your OD master to the internet, should I find a modem that is configurable as a router? I was having problems getting my directory services to work, until I edited my /etc/hostconfig files> HOSTNAME = ‘server-name.domainname.com’
and I also follwed an instruction to edit the /etc/hosts file and added ‘IP address FQDN’ at the end of the file.

I seem not to beable to reach my server from a browser outside of the local network.

although, I was only shecking it from another connection that is having some problems of it’s own, so I haven’t confirmed this yet.
    thanks
and asigning the external interface with an IP address in the 10.0.0.1 range. .
How would you expect to use a private IP address on the internet – that is a big contradiction in terms!
