    Hello!

I have an OD Master that is on 10.6.8 and I am trying to create a replica of a new Mini Server that is on Lion server.

Through the gui it errors out and when trying to bind via the command line I get this error….

2012-02-09 22:26:22 +0000 Error: checkmaster failed: The server does not support the command checkMaster
2012-02-09 22:26:22 +0000 Error: checkmaster failed: The server does not support the command checkMaster (error = 77)
2012-02-09 22:26:22 +0000 Not creating replica due to preflight failure.
2012-02-09 22:26:22 +0000 Not creating replica due to preflight failure. (error = 77)

I am assuming that Lion requires that check to complete before it replicates. Is there anyway around that so that I don’t have to upgrade our OD Master yet?

    Thanks!!

I had this same issue and couldn’t find a way around it. I ended up demoting my OD master (server1) to stand alone, clients then failed over to the replica (server2). I upgraded server1 to 10.7 got everything up and running, and did some dancing around– promoting server2 to master, upgrading server2 to Lion, then turing server1 into a replica, then server2 demoted to stand alone, then server1 to master again, and finally server2 to replica again. And I still had to rebind most if not all clients.

There is no workaround for this. 10.6 and 10.7 will quite simply not replicate with each other. All replicas have to be at the same OS level. This is documented on Apple’s web site.
