My employer is looking to hire a new Mac engineer to work with our growing list of all-Mac and heterogeneous network clients. Here’s the complete listing and the most recent text available on craigslist:

    boston.craigslist.com

This is a full-time position for an Apple Macintosh systems specialist who can perform server, desktop, application and network design and support. This position will operate as a member of the team that supports MIS Alliance’s Macintosh or multi-platform clients (Macintosh + Windows) and will report to the vice president of information technology. The qualified candidate will work closely with our staff to provide ongoing support for our clients’ infrastructure, applications and hardware.

In this role, you will spend 90% of your time supporting clients on-site and remotely. Our clients are typically located within a 40-mile radius of our Newton, MA office. The majority of the clients are within the Rt. 95/128 belt, though we do have a number of clients located near Rt. 495. Scheduled visits as well as emergency visits will be required. Our typical client is the small-to-medium sized business (i.e. <250 desktops).

    TECHNICAL QUALIFICATIONS:

This position requires STRONG skills (advanced-level knowledge) in the following:

    • All versions of Macintosh OS including OS9 (Classic) and OSX (Jaguar, Panther, Tiger)

    • Mac OSX Server including Open Directory and Workgroup Manager configuration

    • Cross platform Windows/Macintosh integration, implementation and troubleshooting

    • Mac-based application support (Microsoft, Adobe, Quark, etc.)

    • Mac-based email applications (MS Entourage, Apple Mail, etc.), including integration with Microsoft Exchange Server, Communigate Pro and other mail servers

    • Mac remote connectivity (ARD, Timbuktu)

    • Mac network security

    • Data backup, disaster recovery, spam control and Web filtering solutions

    • Safari and Internet Explorer Web browser configurations (including proxy configuration and connectivity troubleshooting)

You should also have strong experience with as many of the following as possible:

    • Security measures, concepts and techniques as needed to secure the network perimeter, Windows/Macintosh servers and wireless networks

    • The BSD basis of Mac OS X

    • Hardware configuration and troubleshooting, including SCSI and RAID

    • Experience supporting desktop publishing applications (Quark, Adobe, Macromedia, etc.) is highly desirable

    • A well-stocked software “tool belt” filled with utilities that you will use to diagnose and solve unexpected client problems.

    • Firewall configuration, preferably using SonicWall, Cisco or Microsoft ISA Server

    PERSONAL QUALIFICATIONS:

    • Previous consulting experience is required. This role is not for “internal” corporate work or for someone who just wants to try consulting, but rather for someone who already knows how to work with and for clients.

    • Ability to work with clients and internal staff to assist them to solve their problems and answer their questions. Must be patient and understanding.

    • Strong organizational skills, including ability to multi-task.

    • Strong oral and written communication skills, including fluent and easy-to-understand English.

    • Enthusiasm, intelligence and a sense of humor.

    • Must be willing to drive to the client sites, often on short notice (though almost always during standard work hours).

    • You MUST have demonstrated hands-on experience and be able to solve advanced problems intelligently and quickly. You should enjoy troubleshooting problems and also be willing to get your knees dirty while working with the dust balls that fall out of client workstations.

    EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS:

    • Bachelor’s degree in engineering or science, preferably in computer science or electrical engineering.

This position is based in Newton, MA.

Compensation is flexible and based on experience
