ParticipantJust a quick question – has anybody been able to get iWork 09 to work without repackaging it themselves?
With iWork 08 I simply copied the iWork08.mpkg file from the CD and added that to my InstaUp2Date catalogs, but when I do the same with iWork 09 and try to run it on the resulting image I get an error saying “Files that iWork needs are missing. To restore the missing files, use the iWork Installer to reinstall iWork”.
The InstaDMG log files seem to be indicating that it is installing two sub-packages: iWork 09 and iLife Media Browser for Tiger (which seems strange as it’s running on Leopard). Using Pacifist I can see there are actually 4 packages, iWork09.pkg, iLifeMediaBrowser.pkg, ImageKit_Tiger.pkg, and GraphicsAppSupport.pkg.
I’m guessing for some reason it’s failing to install the Graphics App Support package (based on the indication that the Media Browser and Image Kit packages are for Tiger and not Leopard) and so not working. I’ve tried copying the GraphicsAppSupport.pkg resources and running them separately but that fails. A re-run of the iWork installer on the affected image does fix things.
I’m thinking I might have to build a custom installer, but I have a strong preference for being able to use an installer as is.
Anyone else seeing this? Should I be doing this differently somehow?
Thanks,
Jeff

ParticipantWhat a coincidence. I just received my VLA copy today and I’m running into similar issues. (Installed without issue from the DVD.) First, as a matter of practice, I made a disk image using DiskUtil. of the disc. Then I mounted the image and attempted install. The installation hung towards the end. I made a second image, non-compressed, and ran into the same issue. Copied the .mpkg off the DVD and the image, same deal. Oddly, I have been able to deploy it as a package using ARD.
What’s going on here? The downloadable trial version does not have this issue, but requires a SN, but the VLA media that I received from Apple, which does not require a SN behaves completely differently.
I haven’t tried re-packaging it yet…

ParticipantI just built my own package, the InstaDMG workflow is chugging away as I type this, so I should know if it worked tomorrow. Am very disappointed it didn’t work as smoothly as 08 though.

ParticipantSorry for not posting an update earlier – my custom package worked fine, but really unsure what changed between 08 and 09. I much much prefer using the original installers so this is a bit frustrating. Oh well, it is working now so on I go.

ParticipantFWIW I got around this (Thanks to John Goss) by running these commands on my test machine:
defaults write /Library/Preferences/com.apple.iWork09.Installer InstallMode Retail
And then to suppress registration prompts:
defaults write /Library/Preferences/com.apple.iWork09 ShouldNotSendRegistration -bool yes
now to bundle it and deploy 😀
Hope this helps somebody going prematurely grey!!!

ParticipantGlad to have not gone grey!
For my build process, by the way, I put it in a payload-free package’s postflight script that gets installed after the iWork update.
Thanks Mr. Allen, and Mr. Goss who he credits before him!
