Apologies, if this was asked here or elsewhere before but I could not find the right answer in the archives.
I have taken over an Xserve Raid 1. gen. with 4 x 500GB (plus 1 hot spare) on each controller side. Each side is a Raid 5 array and the attached Server (Mac OS X Server 10.5.6) has built a Software-Raid 0 (striped) out of them. I was asked to check how this unit could be expanded.
Now my question: if I put 2 additional drives on each side and do the expansion in Raid Admin, how will that effect the Software-Raid? Can this be exanded too? I know that 10.5 can resize partitions but I am not sure if this will work on this setup. Is there a chance to do this all without rebuilding everything from scratch?
