I’ve tied several times with Virtual PC and am throwing in the towel. How do I get a VPN connectionon my Mac running OS 10.2, that would have otherwise required a WinTel Machine running the Nortel Connectivity client.

    You don’t.
The contivity client is meant to connect to a Contivity Extranet Switch. Contivity uses a subset of the IPSec standards that means you have to use the branded client. The OSX client for Contivity is promised by year end (but then it was previously promised for July 2002).

In this case you’re probably better off using a SSH tunnel.
