We have a corporate NIS domain and a corporate LDAP server (the NIS domain synchronizes itself from the LDAp server). I would like to use the groups and memberships of those groups in my Open Directory (OD). If possible, I would like to set something on the Panther server to recognize these groups, either on LDAp or NIS, and have the group magically appear in Workgroup Manager.

If there is no easy way to get the groups to magically appear, then can I create a matching group in Workgroup Manager with the same ID, but not add any users. I don’t have any users in my OD since all the user info is coming from NIS.

My goal is to control access to applications based on group membership. for example, only people in the corporate “macmsoff” group would be able to launch MS Office applications. I’m hoping I can restrict which groups can launch apps just using Workgroup Manager.

    Your help is appreciated.

    Thanks,

    Allan

OK, I don’t have r/w access to the corporate LDAp server (I’m luckey enough to get root access to the servers I administrate! 🙂 I have no problem write the 4 line script to sync the corporate LDAP server down to the local Panther server. Given that you probably already have these four lines written somewhere, would you mind giving me an example?

    Thanks,

    Allan
