Installing software via command line.

Is it possible to install software (.pkg installer) via the command line in panther server? I thought it would have been something like “open file.pkg” or “install file.pkg,” but they haven’t helped me at all. This server is headless and I really don’t want to install a video card and monitor just to do a quick software installation… Is there a good place (or book) that would have information about this sort of thing? I need to grab a book on OS X server at some point.
