ParticipantWith Karl (larkost, main developer) likely off the project, I wonder how anyone’s doing with rolling a 10.5.7 or 10.5.8 based image with the code we have now?
I’m sticking with 10.5.5 and 10.5.6 (for nehalem) as I’ve failed to get a reliable dmg using the images of our install DVDs and the apple updaters. Right now it’s not problematic – there are one or two fixes in 10.5.8 i’d love to have – but when something tips my hand (a critical app update requires a later OS rev, or Safari 4 is required etc) I’m going to end up running the large combo updaters post-hoc on 10.5.6 imaged machines. boo hoo for me, eh 🙂

ParticipantI actually just started working with InstaDMG at version 1.4b4 (reference script), using 10.5 Retail for the base OS, and 10.5.8 combo updater. So far, it’s been working just fine. I’ve only noticed two issues in my testing, neither of which seem to be InstaDMG related.
(One is with the iSight during the setup assistant (using iSight to take a photo for the user photo; the other is a fairly nasty X11 issue preventing it from launching).

ParticipantI’ve been able to create working images with at 10.5.7 disc that came with a new macbook pro plus the 10.5.8 combo updater. Everything seems to work a-ok.
I did have an issue with a 10.5.6 retail disc and the 10.5.7 combo updater (no audio upon boot).

Participantchris – what version is your OS base.
I’ll have a go at 10.5.5 plus the new 10.5.8 combo this afternoon…

Participanti meant 10.5.6 and 5.8 updater. anyway FAIL there. clicking on Mail it says “You can’t run this version of Mail on this version of OSX”! (it’s still on 3.5)
i wonder if it’s the 10.5.6 install disk i got with the nehalem macs. (odd thing i noticed with this install disk – no “Desktop Pictures” folder in /Library/)
gonna try with the older 10.5 install disk (10.5.2??)…

ParticipantI got my baseOS from a recently purchased media kit (10.5.6) and the 10.5.8 combo updater. Haven’t had an issue with any of my images (other than specific programs like Adobe but that’s…Adobe).
I’ve got another image baking up right now and I’ll try mail specifically and see if I get anything similar (don’t hold your breath for a reply tho, its got at least another 3.5 hours to go).

I was using 10.5.0 retail, and the 10.5.8 combo updater. This was mostly working; issues noted were the above mentioned ones (X11 not booting, iSight not showing a “preview” before taking an image during setup assistant) as well as a more significant issue with Final Cut Pro crashing on launch.
I’ve since switched my build train up. I’ve upgraded to v211 of InstaDMG. I’ve also switched from the retail 10.5.0 disc to an OEM set of discs from a MacBook Pro (Early 2008). Specifically, Disk 1 is part number 2Z691-6248-A, and disk 2 is part number 2Z691-6249-A. They contain Mac OS X 10.5.4. (The interesting thing about these discs is that they are labeled “For Mac Computers” instead of a specific type of Mac; additionally, they will happily boot and install onto our iMac 17″ machines from mid-’07, where I’d expect the “You cannot install onto this machine” message.)
Other than those two changes, everything else remains the same with my build train, including the 10.5.8 combo updater. So far, every one of the above issues seem to be resolved with this build train, with only one new issue detected (an issue with com.apple.usbmuxd.plist LaunchDaemon). Assuming this one last issue is resolved, this will likely be the build train that will go live next week.
ETA: our standard hardware, and the only platform I’ve tested on, is the aforementioned iMac 17″ (Mid-2007) machines.

ParticipantFINALLY got what looks like a working 10.5.8 out!
don’t know what finally tipped it, but i DO know that the last attempt i mentioned here (rev211, 10.5.6 installer + 10.5.8 combo) only seemed to fail, because in the messing around with different versions of IDMG i missed out the essential clearreg and createuser PKGs
i am 1 x idiot
now to see how well this rolls. mail is correctly updated. let’s see if Office works etc.

ParticipantAnybody have problems with Console.app not being the current version (10.5.6) after building an image? We are using retail 10.5.4 + 10.5.8 combo updater and the result image has Console.app 10.5.0 which is the version that comes with 10.5.4.
I’m working through the usual process for double checking our build. However can anybody with a image built from 10.5.4 or older intall dmg check their 10.5.8 image for the Console.app version?
Thanks,

ParticipantHello, building a 10.5.8 image I have a bad mail.app and console.app. Mail is at v3, console at 1.5.0. I used a 10.5.0 retail base, and 10.5.8 combo updater. My code is old instadmg1.4

You need to use 1.4b4. It contains the fix for old software versions.

ParticipantWas anybody able to get 10.5.0 + 10.5.8 combo to successfully get to a build where Mail, iChat, and Console work? I’m having trouble getting this to work. My build machine is running 10.5.6 and InstaDMG 1.4b4, and can be updated if that’s a part of the puzzle.
Thanks,
– Patrick

ParticipantI got mine working properly with a 10.5 base and a 10.5.8 combo updater. I had to switch to InstaDMG 1.5rc1. This made my image good with all the correct version. But, I cannot get the xcode tools to install with 1.5. Has anyone had luck with this, or be able to lend a hand?
