    Hello.

I have three Xserves all running OS X Server 10.5.8 — I just purchased a new Mac Mini Server running 10.6 Server to add into the mix and I have some questions about the initial setup of 10.6 Server in a 10.5 Server mix, specifically with respect to connecting the 10.6 Server to a 10.5 OD Master.

First, I’m unsure exactly what I should be choosing in the following setup screens:

“Users and Groups” — should I choose to “Connect to another server” (with that server being the 10.5 OD Master)?
“Directory Service” — should I choose to NOT set up the machine as an OD Master (since the 10.5 machine is the OD Master)?

This is what I did, but the 10.6 Server doesn’t seem to be connected to the OD Master correctly as I don’t see any of the users/groups from the OD Master on the 10.6 Server (for example, when trying to set up users for File Sharing).

So, I demoted the 10.6 Server back to a standalone server and tried to connect to the 10.5 OD Master via Server Admin -> Open Directory. It prompts me to use Directory Utility and then File -> Connect to connect to the OD Master & then authenticate via the Directory Admin username/password, which I did and it seems to have accepted it, but again, on the 10.6 Server I don’t see any of the users/groups that exist on the OD Master?!

All I want this Mac Mini Server to do is host some web development in-house and allow select users (via OD) to have File Sharing access (for placing files on the server for web testing). Nothing complicated. But, I just can’t seem to get this 10.6 Server to connect to the 10.5 OD Master so I can use users/groups for File Sharing.

I’ve tried reinstalling a number of times, but never works.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated!!!
    Kristin.
