I’ve recently begun using InstaDMG and have encountered my first problem. The build seems to complete successfully, but for some reason when I mount the DMG, it’s reported as being almost 300GB (actual size is less than 4GB ). SIU continues to fail when attempting to create a NetInstall set, and I’m assuming it’s because of the disk size. Hopefully I’m not missing something obvious.

What version of SIU? OS version? Is it a custom Net install?

My disk is almost 300GB too, it’s just an set size that the disk image can grow to, not necessary the actual size of the contents or the actual dmg. If I’m wrong, I hope to be corrected.

What about using NetRestore? It’s really not that big of a leap from NetInstall and can take a dmg strait from InstaDMG. Saves a bit of time if your updating the image regularly.

The OS version on both client and server is 10.5.6.

Since the NetInstall build never seems to complete in SIU/Automator, I assumed it had something to do with the fact it was a 300GB disk image. However, based on your response, it seems my assumption was incorrect.

I’ve been using SIU for the last few years and I’ve never tried NetRestore, although I’ve heard many, many references to it. I figure if SIU has always worked, there’s not much point in changing. However, it may be time to finally take a look.

Anyway, for whatever reason, after I build the image in InstaDMG, SIU/Automator just runs endlessly and the image never completes. I’ve been building images for about three years now and I’m used to getting a working build. 🙂 But this is my first attempt, so I’m bound to run into a problem here or there…

Well… today it’s decided to work… AND I’m trying NetRestore for the first time as well, although I see it’s End of Life was last November. 🙁
Welp, the next step is to see if the NetInstall is successful… /hopes

I just finished testing the SIU and netinstall of my InstaDMG image and found that it worked ok.

Yes, netrestore is in limbo at this point. Although it continues to work and probably will through out the next few operating systems. However, if it does fail, I am also working on developing a Deploy Studio install to replace my NetRestore. I suppose I should have mentioned that before hand! =)
