I’m the Mac guy on a mostly PC helpdesk. We’re slowly getting Macs in and I’ve been given the task to create a company image for our current and upcoming machines.
I’m aware of net image and the system image utility app, but I was wondering if somebody knew about blasting out an image that included a bootcamp partition of windows too. If you select a volume to create an image from in disk utility will it allow the entire drive and let os x and windows be stuffed into the image? I was able to select the whole hard drive in Disk Utility and it churned out a 50+gb dmg, but that’s a far cry from the 4-6gb ghost images we’ve been using for PCs.
Is it quicker to use carbon copy cloner for one or two machines as well?
Would there be a problem using PPC Tiger Server to serve images to Intel-based Macs? I know creating a PPC image and trying to put it on an intel mac is a no-no, but does it matter about the system serving up the image? I’d image not since you can set up a linux netboot server.
If i created an image from a core solo Mini would that be usable on a Core 2 Duo iMac later though?
Thanks
