ParticipantLet me try again.
brand new MBP requires 10.5.7 3A174 probably some new drivers that were added after 10.5.7 combo?i made DMGs out of the install media that comes with this machine i have an “Mac OS X Install DVD.dmg” and “Applications Install Disc.dmg”
generated my installerchoices file because if i used my previous one i got an empty build in step one of instadmg. noticed there are no iDVD, iMovie and iPhoto choices in the new file,
when i start instadmg i see mounting a supportd disk ….
but i see no way to get it to install the “Install Bundled Software.mpkg” that is found on the applications install disc, i have tried running instadmg on the laptop instead of my normal build machine, tried opening the dmg that was missing the ilife apps and installing the mpkg, i get a nice message saying that this software cannot be installed on this machine. then i tried digging down to the actual packages and installing them manually with similar results.
i am going to try and start with my old 10.5.2 build that the ilife stuff installed with before but i fear something like video, or wireless is not going to work on the laptop properly because a driver is missing.
any help would be greatly appreciated.

ParticipantWhat about pulling the packages out with pacifist, or repackaging the installers. Can’t help with the installerchoices, haven’t changed mine in about a year and still using the old format.

Participanti am running a build right now where i pulled the package and associated directory that holds the real packages and generated an installer choices for that package.
just checking, are you using a new OS install DVD disk that came with a system and getting iMovie, iDVD and iPhoto installed through instadmg?
When i tried just an every day install from the actual DVD there was no choice for the ilife stuff to install on the main installer, and i had to insert the second disk and install it separately.
probably just need to add some logic to instadmg to actually do something with the support disk and its new mpkg
thanks

ParticipantI’m using a 10.5.0 install DVD without any iLife. I add iLife 08/09 depending on licenses. I used the iLife installer DVD that is purchased separately. I re-packaged them using Composer 7.

ParticipantI just had someone at work get one of the new 13-inch Macbook Pro’s and realized after imaging that the audio didn’t work. I checked the discs that came with it and it came with 10.5.7, so I took the first disc and created a .dmg of it and replaced the 10.5.6 retail .dmg I was using to build my images. It worked on the new machine and also older machines still worked fine with the same new image. I would recommend not using the second-disc as a part of the Base OS install. For two reasons, one because I am not sure how :P, and two because you really want to separate the iLife installation (or any other extra apps) from the Base OS so that you can customize your images with more precision/ease. For example, if you wanted to build another image that didn’t have iLife, then you would have to go back and reinstall the Base OS and create a new cached image using the retail 10.5.x disc.
Also the discs that come bundled with new macs use to install trial versions of iWork and stuff like that which you don’t want (I am not sure if they still do). I would just install using the .dmg of the first disc and pull the iLife package out of the disc and install it as a package separately.

Participantthat is the approach i took, when you pull that package off disk 2 you have to get the system folder and put it in your custompkg directory as well otherwise it wont install. you can also give it a installerchoices file and not install garageband etc.
Another Caveat I noticed with this new media. The 10.5.7 that came with the latest MBP would not boot a G5 any longer, i started with my 10.5.2, put 10.5.7 combo and the required updates and got a working image. but now i have to have 2 10.5.7 images…

Participantwalt – i noticed you mention that the audio wasn’t working when you deployed a 10.5.6 based image onto a new macbook. I had something similar just happen to me, and I was wondering if using the packaged disc that came with it as the BaseOS took care of the audio problem.
Thanks!

Participantalso, is it possible to extract the iLife packages off of the apps install dvd? We just got a bunch of new MacBooks, so we don’t actually have an iLife disc, just the copies that come preinstalled.
I noticed there are pkg files for each app, plus a small one called iLife09, and four more iLife pkg files (Cookie, MediaBrowser, Slideshow, Sound Loops). If anyone has tried this, let me know if it works and what order you’d have to install them.
Thanks!

Participantyes, you just need to get the Install Bundled Software.mpkg and the System directory and copy both into you custom pkg. you also then have to move your apple updates for those apps into custom pkg. or you could do as suggested above and modify the instadmg script to install before the cache image is made then the updates will work in their normal place.
