So we’ve been having weird SMB errors like people not being able to connect, some people connect one day and the next they can’t, etc. in our Golden Triangle. After much trial and error, it seems that the AD plugin in 10.4.11 is buggy and can be swapped with the AD plugin from 10.4.10 or 10.4.9. Make sure you use the same architecture as well when swapping.

So if you have people with SMB errors after updating to 10.4.11, please swap the plugin. It won’t hurt at all and I think you may see things working again. Please try at your own risk though. And backup the 10.4.11 plugin before you replace it with the 10.4.10 one.

The plugin can be found at /System/Library/Frameworks/DirectoryService.framework/Resources/Plugins/Active Directory.dsplug/Contents/MacOS/Active Directory

After swapping, you’ll want to sudo killall DirectoryServices

I can verify that this works. I reverted back to the 10.4.10 AD plugin because after updating to 10.4.11, none of my pc’s or macs could connect via SMB, weather the machine was domained or not. Once I rolled it back, everything worked like a charm.

One other note. I use a script to bind my servers. It seems the option that used to be “-SSO” is now “-enableSSO”.

    Regards,
    Daniel

This fix worked for me also. I have a slightly different set-up.
Windows 2003 Server with ExtremeZ-IP for Mac access. Very complicated AD-OD integration using Workgroup Manager on the Mac side.
When we updated the OSX workstations to 10.4.11 we received the “…files are on an AFP or SMB server…” error message when attempting to log in.
Swapping the plug-in with one from a 10.4.10 workstation per the above directions fixed the problem.

    Many thanks,
    Leigh

I am having very similar issues and am considering moving back to the 10.4.10 AD plugin. However, without doing the install for 10.4.10 server onto some other hardware, does anyone have a copy of this plugin that I can get? It would be greatly appreciated.

Can you try opening the 10.4.10 Combo installer into Pacifist?
