Why is this information shrouded in secret? Why are there no books/guides available? There is TONS of stuff for Microsoft/Cisco/Novell ect. and ZERO for anything Apple. Why? What is available on Apple’s site is…lame.

    i would check http://www.apple.com/server/documentation

also, keep in mind that there is a lot more change in the apple server world every year than in the mac server world, which makes it hard to write a book that stays relevant – any books on bsd would probably be good though.

also, apple (for better or worse) keeps a tight handle on it’s assets (ie, server technologies), and so they like people to learn in their classes to ensure that best practices are followed (and so that they make lots of money on training).

The core technologies stay the same. There are some great books available for OSX client, the “ever changing” landscape doesn’t seem to deter them. There are no books covering OSX Server. That’s the problem.

I understand the “apple way” I’m just saying IMO it sucks. I don’t have $2,500.00 to spend preparing for two tests. You would think Apple would WANT as many people as possible to get certified. It is possible to learn this stuff on your own but some alternate source of info would be nice.

Also, The 10.3 server documentation is Ok but just scratches the surface but it’s the best so far compared to 10.2 & 10.1

i do think that the price of the classes can hinder some from getting certified. one note though – if you can master all the stuff in server admin and workgroup manager, you can pass the test. trust me.

No you can’t…. The test is a lot harder then knowing the GUI part of the server tools. I have setup over 30 servers and failed the test, I even know how to integrate OSX with Novell and AD. The ACTC test is a piece of cake but that test deals with the GUI end, the ACSA test you will not be able to pass if you just know the GUI portion. This test go much deeper then that.
