I have a set-up of OS X 10.4.2 Server and client and I have users that have mobile accounts. These laptops leave the school and are taken home by staff who would like to use the laptop on their own networks, with their own settings.

What is the easiest way to give these users access to the Network Prefs without giving them a local administrator account? Whenever the user tries to change the local machines network prefs it asks for the admin account of the local user. (local admin account is used for administering machines only) Is there a way to allow the teachers to change these settings at will through WorkGroup Manager or must I give them a local admin account?? Kind of defeats the purpose of managed client when they have local admin access???

    Thoughts? Suggestions?

What if they don’t have a DHCP type set-up, what if they have to configure PPOE, or dial-up? I assume the only way to allow them to manage these is to switch their mobile account to a local adminstrator of that machine? This way they can make all necessary changes?

I have them currently set-up with multiple locations, school and home, but as mentioned above some are still doing dial-up and need to change settings.

What about using the Adminstrator Group (GID 80), add students to that group, would that create a local admin when they log-in or will that hose the system? I also think this would allow them to manage the Directory Domain, not something I want happening.
