Hi, We have a 10.3.9 server serving about 20 clients with network home directories. Since we upgraded 10 of the clients to 10.4.4 users are are having problems saving word documents.
“Word cannot save the file xxxx as it is already open elsewhere”
I’ve looked at the .Temporary Items folder, but cant figure out what the permissions should be on it, or any of the sub folders…

    can anyone help?

Thanks Joel, I think ive got it now.
I’m serving AFP and SMB, I kinda need to as we have mixed clients.

    I found this article:
    http://word.mvps.org/MacWordNew/Can%27tSaveToServer.htm
This is a VERY usefull document.

I changed the group prefernces to NOT “mount the network home share point” and it has solved some of the problems, i’ll know more when our users get in tomorrow and thrash it.

Upgrade to 10.4.6 on the client, this fixes the Word saving issues. We have tested this on our 300+ clients with network home directories and it works! (Of course, we also upgraded to 10.4.6 on the servers too)

I’m still having this issue with 10.4.6. I was so hoping that 10.4.6 was going to fix it.

This has long since been fixed. See http://word.mvps.org/Mac/CantSaveToServer.html
