    greetings
I aam trying to use a second xserve to host my users home directories.
    server 1 ; OD master
server 2 ; connected to Directory

If the afp volume is located on server 1, the users can mount home directories fine. But when i assign a directory user a remote home dir on server 2, I get an errror when logging in on the client side.

” You are unable to log into user account at this time. Logging into the account failed because an error occured. the home folder for the user is located on an AFP or SMB server. Contact you system admin for help. “

    Bah! no kidding!
thats why i was trying for, I guess I am missing something that allows the volume from server2 to mount up. the home dir is there, I checked the volume and the home folder was created on save.

    tips, tricks and flames welcome.

Okay I got it to work. I setup a second box on the same subnet, created a test acccount in LDAP and pointed the afp home dir to the new server. Clicked create home dir and it worked.

    Now,…
there seems to be a problem with the afp server off subnet (server 3).

    server 1 OD master 10.1.1.1
server 2 afp connected to OD 10.1.1.2
server 3 afp connected to OD 192.168.1.1

    log report from server 3

    Jan 25 07:51:53 nc1-11 automount[10379]: Can’t mount svr3.foo.org:/Users on /private/Network/Servers/svr3.foo.org/Users: Authentication error (80)
    Jan 25 07:51:53 nc1-11 automount[10379]: Attempt to mount /automount/Servers/svr3.foo.org/Users returned 80 (Authentication error)
    Jan 25 07:51:53 nc1-11 automount[194]: Can’t mount svr3.foo.org:/Users on /private/Network/Servers/svr3.foo.org/Users: Authentication error (80)

    ?
