This post has a simple purpose: to express my gratitude to all the people associated with AFP548, especially all the contributors to the InstaDMG project and to this forum.
At Macworld Conference 2008, I was introduced to the joys of packaging and InstaDMG. I was in need of rebuilding my base image from scratch, so I put my energies into learning this new method. It’s been challenging at times (e.g., the last time I wrote a shell script was in the early 1980s, primarily so my csh prompt would read, “What is your command, my liege?” 🙂 ). And no, my master image, which pushes out 60+ GB, is not fully converted over yet.
But last week, I gave a presentation to my Mac peers on campus that shared my progress over the past year in using this new workflow. It was one of the easiest presentations I’ve ever prepared. I took less than a day to make the slides — this whole process and its benefits are now instilled (or perhaps installed 😉 ) in me, even if I still have much to learn. The presentation content just flowed out of me. It is because of the dedicated people of this community that I could do this. (If you’re curious, you can look at the slides: http://www.ucalgary.ca/~areimer/slides/MacTech-DiskImaging2009-02-19.pdf.)
Thanks to all who answered (and continue to answer) my newbie questions. I may not have a lot to give back yet, but I can do so on my campus. Thanks again.
Anthony
