Hi,
I have a quad 2.5 PPC tower running OS X Server unlimited client. 8 gb ecc ram.
I need to set up a vlan in my classroom with the clients all having a static ip given to them through eth1. I want to maintain my server’s connection to the internet through eth0. I sit behind a router( 10.14.0.1 subnet mask 255.255.0.0.) It assigns eth0 ip/s like 10.14.100.59 What numbers should I use to make sure that even if I ever accidentally bridge the ports I won’t bring the wrath of the PC tyrants down on me. Even my en0 is not a part of the AD domain. I just use the lan’s bandwidth. So in very simple language, how do I start? Should I configure what is called port two(I assume that is ETH1). Do I have to enable dhcp services to throw out static ip’s. If, not how do I get started? What numbers do you suggest I use as my router number and what for my clients? Do I need to enter a subnet number or mask for a vlan to serve about 45 clients all running OS X Tiger. If you have a link with a very straightforward step by step on this it would be greatly appreciated. I have found Apple documents explain all the theory but the gui on OS X server is not very intuitive. Thanks.
