Function Keys not working

After imaging an mac book pro (unibody) i am unable to use the volume up and down keys or the Brighness contrast keys on the keyboard. The volume doesn’t work at all. I used a Mac os 10.5 retail DVD and put the 10.5.6 combo update in the Base updates. Anyone have any thoughts on how to fix this?

Can you use them whilst holding the function key? Is it set in system preferences -> Keyboard to use all the F keys as standard function keys?

Well the keys actually do work but when i press the volume up or down it shows the circle with a line through it. Also i don’t have any sound for anything and it shows no audio devices listed.

updating the image to 10.5.8 resolved the issue.

For the record: the probable issue was that 10.5.6 did not support this model of computer, and 10.5.8 did. It was probably close enough to that was supported under 10.5.6, but minus some drivers to properly support the sound system.
