FTP Server Problem with 2 subnets

Ok, maybe it is isn’t working so well.

With the two xserves connected on their own subnet, independent of our main network, we experienced major FTP server problems.

We normally use WebStar V as our FTP server, but I had the same symptoms when I shut it down and quickly configured a user with OSX FTP.

Everything works as expected when accessing the site from a PC (the irony is rich, yes?) but from a Mac OUTSIDE of our subnet, it appears as though there is a Passive/Active problem. The user is able to connect, but the PWD or LIST command never returns anything. This is same whether Fetch or Terminal.

I’ve tried all combinations of active/passive on both sides to no avail. Disabling the secondary subnet eliminated the problem.

Any ideas?
