FTP Proxy Software

I have a FTP server behind a firewall/nat box. At the moment, I’m able to login to the ftp server (from the internet), but that’s all – it won’t transfer files, nor list directory contents. To solve the problem, I’m looking into ftp proxy software:

Does anyone have experience with this kind of setup?
