i have two network users, both in the same group. that group has full access permissions on a shared volume through an ACL. this is tiger server, obviously, 10.4.10.

user A creates a folder on the share. user B can read and write that folder’s contents (as per the ACL).

if you examine the unix permissions on the folder, they are 755 (owner full access, group and others read-only). but this doesn’t matter to most apps, since the ACL controls access and overrides the unix perms.

except Flash. version CS3 (and possibly earlier) will refuse to “publish” with an error “error creating flash movie file”.

if i change the unix permissions (chmod 775) it works like a charm.

    questions:

1: is there a way to have *both* inherit unix permissions and ACLs on a volume? as it is new folders default to 755, even if the parent folder is 775.

2: is there a way to change the default unix permissions on new folders and files that users create? i feel like there are ways to do this, but i haven’t found (or rediscovered) the setting

3: has anyone else seen this happening with Flash or any other app that doesn’t respect ACLs? and is there a workaround or solution?

    thanks.
