Super productive day yesterday after reading up on some of R. Trouton’s new firstboot script goodness! Built a 10.7 image – noticed a few bits I could polish up, did so – and re-ran the build.

Now, can’t seem for the life of me to get my first boot script to install as part of the build any more. Permissions, and files, are identical to what they were prior to my messing about – and I -was- able to build at least 1 image with this updated package – just can’t seem to do it a second time.

I’m testing on a partition and have checked out the drive contents prior to rebooting to it and can’t see the scripts or launch deamon. Totally odd – literally everything else (including files in that same catalog) are installed properly.

I’m assuming that I’ll find my mistake today – but just in case – are there any InstaDMG related caches that I should clear out just to be sure?

    Hey mgb123,
Since instadmg creates a new tmp for each build it is highly unlikely there are caches that will affect the next run.

As another data point, I had to recreate some of my payload-free packages to get firstboot actions properly installed and registered by Lion.

    Thanks Allister –

So I just repackaged the scripts – along with the postinstall script with Composer (figured, I might as well take my own stupidity out of the equation) and then installed manually into a firstboot-free new image. On a reboot – seems as though everything went as expected. Seems to indicate that I fudged up the first boot pkg at some point. I’m guessing that I must have fiddled with the pkg and just not remembered it.

I’m baking out a new image currently – will post results once re-imaged.

Hi, any chance of a URL for the new firstboot script of Mr. Trouton? I’m playing with several versions found on managingosx etc, but if there are some Lion tweaks I’d like to know!
    cheers, —john—

All is well – script worked out A-OK. Issue was somewhere between the keyboard and seat.
