    Hello,

I am facing following scenario. Now we have file shares on Microsoft Windows platform with Extreme Z-IP for AFP file sharing. We would like to move it from Microsoft Windows to our new Xserve from Apple (due to running out of space on Microsoft Windows). Unfortunately the user credentials are verified against Active Directory for sharing AFP space. When I will move the shares to Xserve, can I set verification against Active Directory from OS X? (running OS X Server 10.4.9). I find out the OS X Server can be STANDALONE, CONNECTED TO A DIRECTORY SYSTEM, OPEN DOMAIN REPLICA and OPEN DIRECTORY MASTER. I am not so much familiar with connecting both platforms via Active Directory so can someone just answer me few questions?

    1) I am able to connect with DIRECTORY ACCESS to the Active Directory Domain. I created account for this OS X Server with Administrator, Domain Admins, Domain Controller and Domain Users cattegories, but just want to be sure. What account I have to create it?

    2) I am able to get user accounts from /Active Directory/All Domains, but I am not able to assign permissions for folders.

    3) In Share points preferences (Network Mount tab) I selected WHERE pulldown menu as /Active Directory/All Domains and SAVE that. Than I change protocol to AFP and save that. Than change ENABLE NETWORK MOUNTING OF THIS SHARE POINT and tried to save, but there is an error.

    So I have two ideas.

Firstly: Make OS X server with CONNECTED TO A DIRECTORY SYSTEM role (which I suppose to be as “only forward verification of credentials to main domain controller”)

or secondly: Make OS X server as “backup of domain controller” so the user credentials will be verified locally on OS X Server.

I hope someone will answer me. Thanks in advance.
