Fail an installer

I need an installer to balk at installing if any version of Adobe CS or Photoshop Elements is installed.
What do people think would be the best way to do this? Via the package requirements, or a preflight script?

I would try requirements first, failing a postlight or pre(install/upgrade) script will not give the user any indication of why if fails.

Maybe, however, that’s what you want? =)
