Not sure if nobody else has been experiencing this issue; or if nobody has been replying simply because I put my orignal post in a bad spot on the forum. Please refer to my original posts at https://www.afp548.com/forum/viewtopic.php?showtopic=25629.

    Overview of the issue:
Writing files to certain windows file servers from a Leopard client bound to Active Directory. Users recieve message in finder “You may need to enter the name and password for an administrator on this computer to change the item named ‘file.whatever'”. A file shows up, however it is zero KB in size. A look /var/log/system.log shows the following:

    Jan 18 14:24:29 app13937ml kernel[0]: smbfs_composeacl: smbfs_setattr+1 13, ignored

Recently I have tried Snow Leopard which seems to clear this issue up, however I noticed a new issue that if you make use of mobile user accounts, there is an issue with DirectoryService that logs a mess about “Misconfiguration detected in hash ‘Kerberos'”. This seems to only be an annoyance and the end-user most likely would not be affected.

Today I also tried copying files using smbclient -k… interestingly enough from a Leopard client I can write files to the problem shares without issue. This tells me the finder must be passing something in file copies that is not kosher with certain windows file service setups. I may look into this with fileshark.

Please let me know if anyone else has experienced this issue.

    Thank you,
    Ken
