Does anyone have a rundown of the proper way to configure DNS (on both the AD server and a OSX10.3 server).

It seems ok, but no matter what I do I can’t get it to bind in the directory access app. It always comes back with “An Invalid Domain and Forest combination was specified)…

Does anyone happen to have an example set up/screenshot where this actually works?

Right now I have the Xserve using the AD server’s IP for DNS. Resolution seems to work, and records on the AD server seem right. Do I need to add any records to the Xserve?

Also, the AD server is using “.local” instead of “.com” could this have any effect on it?

Thank you so much for your help! I am going to re-do everything this morning.
I knew it had to be some crazy little detail like that. (aside from the fact that .local just didn’t look quite right to me) 😆

    hey guys.

what a co-inky dink. . . i am trying to do the exact same thing. Thing is, though – I have no ADS mojo, our domain admin is not very cooperative and, while I have domain admin privs atm, I am not well-versed on where to find out if my domain uses .local or not. I’m browsing Active Directory Users and Computers right now on my local ADS box, but I am not sure how to determine which settings I should use for me tree and whatnot.

    gah.

    Anyhow,
    check this out:
    http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;836413
it touches upon the .local rendezvous issue.

now, if you fellas can help me browse my ADS box to determine which settings I should use (I do have domain admin, so – I imagine I should be able to determine it with a bit of assistance, I would be MUCH obliged.
