Could someone please give me a few pointers? I am completely new to setting up DNS, and have been getting a little confused…

I am running an intranet in a small office environment (approx. 15 clients computers). The intranet is running off a W2K server (let’s say 192.168.0.20), and I have an OS X server which handles file sharing (192.168.0.30).

I have a number of different sites running on the W2K server, and at present I configure each DNS entry manually in NetInfo on each Mac client. This is getting more and more impractical.

Would setting up DNS on the OS X Server be my best bet? Or is there an intermediate option that would save time but not get too complicated (such as a centralised list of settings I could import to each client)?

Note that all the addresses I’d set up would be for internal use only.

    Thanks for the advice.

I’m not entirely sure about the Primary Domain Name and Primary Name Server Name. There is no name currently associated with my OS X Server.

We have a domain name (let’s call it mycompany.com). I have subdomains such as http://www.mycompany.com and mail.mycompany.com set up on a public DNS, and pointing to an externally hosted web server.

Would I use mycompany.com in the Primary Domain Name field? And what about the Primary Name Server Name?

Sorry if these are idiotic questions, but I really am new at this!
