So I realized that with the advent of the (paid) Developer Tools 4, it seems prohibitive to include it in an InstaDMG build.

Does anybody know what the best practice is here? Hijack the package that the App Store downloads, use PackageMaker to capture installation data, or what? The DRM issue makes almost any solution I can think of unappealing for a deployment context, but there are tools and apps in Developer Tools that I want in all of my lab machines. Should I just pull out the .apps I want?

I just realized that Dev Tools 3 is still available for download. I guess that is what I will be including; few of my users care about having the newest XCode, anyway.

I’ve heard the iOS developer program allows you to install Xcode 4 on 200 Macs. You’d download the Xcode installer from the developer site. Might help your deployment!

Careful with that iOS University Developer License.

For one, it doesn’t include Xcode 4 (at least not yet).

Also its intended use is for courses that contribute to a degree program. You can’t get a license and start installing it on machines intended to be used by any individual.

You can try asking Apple for clarification, however I have been having trouble getting a straight answer.

You’re much better off sticking with the 3.x series of Xcode for the moment.
