    Hi everyone,

We have 3 Xserves, 1 as a OD master and the other 2 with replicas. Login for managed 10.5 and 10.6 clients works. However, the powers-that-be still think it is too slow.

We have all of our clients attached to our master server, would splitting the clients between the 3 servers speed-up login? Do the replica servers handle any of the login tasks if they are closest server or do they always refer to the master anyways?
My understanding is that the master always handles requests and the replicas just hold backup info for the directory.

Also, would having a SAN solution speed up performance?? I can see with file access, but login/logout??

Any advice would be greatly appreciated!!

What else is going on during login? Are you syncing files?

Your clients will use the Open Directory server that you specified when you bound to Open Directory. There is no automatic load-balancing between the master and replicas. However, of course, if the Open Directory server you bound to becomes unavailable, your client will use another Open Directory server. The client keeps a list of the appropriate servers.
