InstaUp2Date is merely a convenience that then runs instadmg.bash for you, saving you the folder setup step and adding repeatability.
That being said, as long as your using AAME, the thing I’ve heard most likely for success is using http://code.google.com/p/munki to install on firstboot, or you could possibly add a workflow to DeployStudio if thats what you’re using to deploy the image anyway. my usual approach is to build the base image (os + local admin account + munki) and install apps and whatever else on first boot via munki or other methods.
it’s not worth building in huge app suites for me, since my clients’ needs will be different. the modular approach is way more flexible.
